What Are the Best Things About Raleigh NC? The Fun Times Never Stop!

What are the best things about Raleigh, NC? Here’s exactly what they are.

As the capital of North Carolina, Raleigh is known as the “City of Oaks,” and one of the nation’s fastest-growing cities.

Raleigh is also part of the Research Triangle Park — home to some of the nation’s largest technology companies.  The highly educated workforce and strong economy regularly place Raleigh near the top of Forbes’ list of the Best Places to Live in the U.S.

The truth is, there’s more to Raleigh than that.  The people living here also appreciate the other great things that Raleigh has to offer: museums, a thriving arts culture, the world’s largest beer garden, and exciting nightlife.

Raleigh is a large city with everything a typical metropolitan area offers, but it still has a small-town feel. The locals give Raleigh a well-deserved reputation as a friendly place.

In addition, the first state art museum in the country is in Raleigh.

Raleigh truly is a fun place, with more than 40 free historic attractions and museums, a diverse performing arts and music scene, and theaters, operas, and symphonies.

The state capital is filled with diversions for long-time residents, newcomers, and visitors alike. These are well-established institutions that have given Raleigh strong cultural credentials.

Restaurants in Raleigh

And Raleigh is always adding something new. Transfer Co. Food Hall, a food hall and market housed in a renovated warehouse, just opened and offers plenty of new options for foodies.

It’s a gathering space for food producers, makers, and restaurateurs. Vendors include Locals Oyster Bar, featuring a menu of fresh oysters, seafood and handcrafted cocktails. Another is Burial Beer Co., which is part taproom, part art gallery.

You get the idea — the foodies are out in force in Raleigh.

Nights in Raleigh

Hard working locals like to enjoy themselves, which is why Raleigh buzzes with activity after dark. Depending on where you go in the city, you’ll find people sipping cocktails, dancing to live music or exploring downtown Raleigh’s five walkable entertainment districts.

Something is always going on here.

On a Saturday night, you might find people gravitating to Dram & Draught, which has more than 300 whiskeys from around the world, or at BottleDog Bites & Brews, a hybrid bottle shop and bar that pairs food with 12 rotating taps and more than 200 options of beer to take home. It also has a diverse menu ranges from Canadian Poutine to Montreal smoked meat, Nashville hot chicken, and gourmet hot dogs.

A popular option on Saturdays is live improvised comedy shows from ComedyWorx. Suitable for all ages, this is a competitive show with two teams of comedians and a referee accepting suggestions from the audience. And Goodnights Comedy Club is a venue that hosts stand-up comedians, often nationally recognized talent from across the country.

Raleigh’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade

A good example: Raleigh’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade and the Wearin’ ‘O the Green Festival on March 16, which features a parade of dancers, bagpipes, and musicians who march through downtown Raleigh, followed by a day of live music and performances in Raleigh’s City Plaza.

Art In Bloom

Then from March 21-24, check out Art in Bloom, one of those can’t-miss events, this one held at the North Carolina Museum of Art.
